For her first solo show in Norfolk since moving to the region in 2019, Marion Piper will be showing LUX, a multi-part work on paper incorporating drawing and painting which has been made especially for the art space on the promenade in Cromer. Soft geometric forms and improvised rhythms explore and respond to the artist’s fascination with the subject of painting and art history.

LUX is the presentation of a drawing cycle, comprising sixty works on paper each measuring 76 x 56 cm. The drawings begin with a soft pencil drawn grid. Grey washes and colourful geometric forms are intuitively worked across the surfaces. Installed unframed along the length of the pavilion, parallel to the horizon, the works themselves invite a promenade.

Marion has exhibited multi-part drawings since being selected for the Jerwood Drawing Prize Exhibition, London 2016. Other group shows include Drawing Now at ICA, Portland, Maine USA 2019, READER, Magdalen Road Studios, Oxford 2019 and MK Calling, Milton Keynes Gallery 2020.

Included in LUX are paintings on canvas made in 2022. Recent painting exhibitions include, Winter Salon, Glass Cloud Gallery London 2021, ColourFLEX, Terrace Gallery, London 2022, Summer Exhibition, Royal Academy of Arts 2022.
