In this interactive writing workshop, participants will read, discuss and write grief poetry. They will learn creative writing tools and techniques to help them process, articulate and share their loss. The workshop will be led by local writer James McDermott.

James’s poetry books include ‘Wild Life’ (Nine Arches Press; shortlisted for the East Anglian Book Awards) and ‘Manatomy’ (Burning Eye; long-listed for Polari’s First Book Prize). James is currently writing his third collection which explores grief after losing his father to COVID-19. James is a lecturer in Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia, playwriting teacher for the National Theatre and Arvon writing tutor.

Grief Poetry Reading with James McDermott

Local writer James McDermott (Time & Tide, Rubber Ring, EastEnders) is currently developing his third poetry collection exploring grief after losing his father to COVID in 2022. Join James as he performs poems from the collection and shares stories on how he navigated loss.

James’s plays published by Samuel French include ‘Jab’ (Finborough Theatre), ‘Time and Tide’ (Park Theatre/tour) and ‘Rubber Ring’ (Pleasance Islington). He is also one of the writers on ‘EastEnders’.
