Decentralising Visual Arts Symposium | 21 September 2026

Decentralising Visual Arts Symposium | 21 September 2026

A look back at an inspiring day of talks, panel discussions and roundtable conversations exploring the theme of Decentralising Visual Arts.

Artists, curators, cultural leaders, academics and community practitioners came together to discuss the value of rural and coastal communities, and the innovation they bring to cultural life across the UK.

Throughout the day, conversations examined questions of access, power, place and representation, while highlighting the importance of relationships, collaboration and local knowledge in connecting visual arts with communities.

These images capture moments from a day of thoughtful exchange, shared experiences and ambitious ideas about how culture can thrive beyond major urban centres.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the discussions and helped make the symposium such a stimulating and meaningful event.
