Cromer Artspace’s latest outdoor exhibition, created in partnership with Towner Eastbourne, has transformed the town into an open‑air gallery, drawing enthusiastic responses from residents and visitors alike.
Reproductions of works from Towner’s celebrated collection have been installed at key sites around Cromer as part of The Bigger Picture, an ongoing project bringing national‑level art to public spaces around the streets of Cromer.
Early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. One visitor described the experience as “a burst of colour and imagination just when the town needs it most,” while another commented, “I’ve never stopped this many times on a walk, every corner has something surprising.”
Local families have also embraced the trail. A parent visiting during the Easter break said, “My kids loved spotting the artworks – suddenly Cromer felt like a giant treasure hunt.”
The exhibition runs throughout the spring and summer, encouraging people to explore the town in new ways while engaging with works by leading modern and contemporary artists.
Barry Meadows of Cromer Artspace said: “Bringing Towner’s collection to Cromer has sparked exactly the kind of curiosity and conversation we hoped for. It shows how powerful it can be when national collections step outside their walls and meet people where they are.”
The exhibition is free, open daily, and accessible to all. Maps are available at Artspace on the Prom and on the free digital app Bloomberg Connects. Details about volunteer led walks around the exhibition are on the Cromer Artspace website cromer-artspace.uk.
