The Bigger Picture

Where it all began

It started with an idea to bring some cheer to the streets during lockdown, and soon there were more than 200 children playing games on Garden Street courtesy of the Kunsthistorisches Museum Vienna who provided a high resolution image of the famous Breugel painting...

Art on the street

…This was soon followed by a that lady in a green dress (van Eyck) on New Street and a Tiger (Rousseau) appearing on West Street. Everybody thought the Scream was the image of the lockdown so Munch soon came to town.

In the end over 20 quality life-sized reproductions of works from around the world appeared on the streets of Cromer. People loved it: “I love the idea of engaging the public with art in the environment. Taking it out of galleries, which some people either view as elitist or merely not for them” was typical; “I liked the fabulous quality of the reproductions, the excitement of seeing well known pictures in unexpected places, the enjoyment and interest it has clearly given people about the town.”, “This has engaged lots of people who wouldn’t normally look at art or visit a gallery”.
