Drawing on the idea of the body of the sea, this exhibition explores the sea as a physical presence, a language, a memory and a metaphor. Through visual, material and linguistic forms, the works consider how meaning is carried, transformed and sometimes lost within the rhythms and movements of the marine environment.
Central to the exhibition is an exploration of language shaped by experiences of aphasia, where intended meanings can shift, fragment or disappear altogether. Like the sea itself, words may drift from their origins, collide with new associations, remain suspended in silence, or be washed away entirely.
Moving between the tangible and the elusive, the exhibition invites visitors to consider the sea not simply as a landscape, but as a living body of stories, emotions, sounds and absences. Here, communication becomes fluid, unstable and open to interpretation, echoing the tides that continually reshape our understanding of both language and place.
Body of the Sea offers a contemplative space in which language, memory and the natural world meet, revealing the beauty and uncertainty that emerge when meaning ebbs and flows.
