Discover the quiet magic of mending with artist and textile repairer Roberta Cummings as she guides you through the satisfying art of darning knitwear.
We’ll start with a simple hand‑worked plain‑weave darn, perfect for beginners, before moving on to the delightful Speedweve darning loom — a clever little gadget invented in Lancashire in the 1930s and 40s and beloved during the wartime Make Do and Mend era. With the rise of visible mending, these looms are enjoying a well‑deserved revival, and you’ll see why the moment you try one.
This workshop is welcoming, gentle, and ideal for absolute beginners.
All materials are provided, but you’re warmly encouraged to bring along a favourite sock or jumper with a hole that’s ready for a new lease of life.
