Coastal Imaginaries – Residency
For two weeks during March 2025, visual artists Marnie Hardy and Rach Anstey-Sanders brought their Coastal Imaginaries project to Cromer Artspace on the Prom.
Coastal Imaginaries is an artist-led project revealing stories told by local land and seascapes. Starting with real-world history, experiences and ideas from pre-history to modern-day science, Rach and Marnie navigate into the unusual, the unseen and the other-worldly to reach a place of possibility and openness. The work aims to generate positive interaction and discussion about humans, nature and the coast.
During their residency, Marnie and Rach set up a ‘research lab’ in which to work together, and spent two weeks generating a body of research which is being used to inspire new work. Throughout the fortnight, they invited local artists, makers, scientists and interested members of the public to join in the research, take part in creative activities and share coastal stories of their own.
