Laetitia Yhap was born in Hertfordshire after her mother was evacuated from London during the Second World War. She studied at Camberwell School of Art and then at then the Slade School. For many years Yhap lived in Hastings, Sussex, and discovered the vibrant and unique fishing community which had been established there from Anglo Saxon times. At one point Hastings had the largest beach launched fleet in the UK but this has sadly since declined. Her archive of fishing scenes stretches over 25 years, and she often titled the painting after the fishermen they depict, as in this work. This colourful scene depicts a fisherman and his dog carrying ‘Robin Huss’ (a colloquial term for dog fish).
