Clare Woods is a British painter who was born in Southampton and studied in Bath and Goldsmiths, London. Originally trained as a sculptor, Woods’ career as a painter spans 30 years. In 2011 she moved from painting in enamel to oil on aluminium to shift her focus to the texture and unpredictable nature of the paint. Woods is well known for her large-scale abstract landscapes, more recently exploring themes with reference to historical art practice, including flowers, figurative subjects, and her first self-portrait.
Nowhere Fast is from a series of domestic windows painted from inside during the covid lockdown, capturing how many of us were viewing our limited surroundings during this period.
