Emma Stibbon is a contemporary British artist who works primarily in drawing and print, depicting environments that are undergoing transformation and the forces of nature that shape our surroundings. Stibbon undertakes extensive research on location alongside geologists and scientists looking at the impact of natural and human activity on the environments she depicts.
Hope Gap was part of a recent touring exhibition Melting Ice/Rising Tides which connects vanishing polar ice and surging sea levels with the unprecedented erosion taking place on UK coastlines. It depicts the stairs leading from the beach near Cuckmere, west of Eastbourne which were deemed unsafe after a storm in 2023.
