Young Visions for the Pier

To mark the 125th anniversary of Cromer Pier, NNDC is commissioning a new metalwork mural from local artist Kate Munro. Schools across the area were invited to submit student artworks, and selected pieces will form the creative foundation for Kate’s final design.

Kate Munro is well known for her ability to work collaboratively and to honour community contributions within her designs — as seen in her co‑created pieces in Sheringham Primary and panels for Strumpshaw Fen.

“I am delighted to have been asked to make a permanent artwork to celebrate the magnificent Cromer Pier’s 125th anniversary. I will be working with a selection of fantastic artwork made by students from schools in the area showcasing their impressions of Cromer and the Pier. I will collate these into a coherent silhouetted design, and plasma-cut this from large corten steel sheets in my workshop. I love working with children’s work as the range of imagination and bold, vibrant designs translate so well to this process.”

An exhibition at Artspace on the Prom will showcase the original school submissions, alongside photographs created during a Cromer Artspace workshop led by Julia Rafferty, backstage photographs by David Morris, plus additional artworks celebrating our much‑loved pier. It’s a chance to see the ideas and inspirations behind a new landmark before it takes its place on the seafront.
