Cromer collage | Summer and of sunshine, Christmas swims off the pier: a long-ago childhood in Cromer. Crabs in buckets, sandcastles flying brave flags, white net gloves Nanny insisted on. Giant waves, ice cream on the front, and the steadfast Henry Blogg lifeboats. This screenprint gathers together those salt-bright, magical memories. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/ff-f0fc83d72a35cea9ca7a20406cbf47fe-ff-Cromer-screenprint.jpg | ||||||

Lovesters | I love the idea that deep on the sea bed two lobsters find each other and mate for life! Very endearing! Not sure it’s true but we all love a bit of romance! The print was made from paper cut outs and screen printed and embossed on Somerset paper. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/ff-165b53941fbc386b60115be16c3ec816-ff-IMG_7079.jpeg | ||||||
Canada's Maple Route In The Fall | I use found and discarded paper that has acquired marks over time, kick-starting my creative process. I respond to and augment the marks already there. I am drawn to found images that have both personal and universal meaning. Recurring images (Iris, leaf, horse) are altered and re-represented. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/ff-098164c0851cc41232c7d85018a21868-ff-Canadas-Maple-Route-In-The-Fall.jpg | Drinking From The Cup | This work was born out of seeing the work of Mapplethorpe and Fink. Their work moved me so much it was inevitable found images of the Iris, Maple leaf and horse made an appearance in my own work, but in unpredictable, unique and surprising ways. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/ff-9bf69b4ef18c35ff7f455030476c2d42-ff-Drinking-From-The-Cup.jpg | Nod to Miro | As well as utilising the pre-existing marks on found and discarded paper, I am drawn to and make use of the suggestibility and chance inherent in printmaking, in particular mono-printing. I also favour mono- (& lino) printing because these printmaking processes are inexpensive, user-friendly and readily available to everyone | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/ff-991ff79d53a5460c2f71209d2f97a307-ff-Nod-To-Miro.jpg | All 3 works are mounted and framed in a simple black frame. True to mono-printing, each piece is unique. There are no editions made. All 3 pieces (including the frame) measure: 42cm x 59.4cm.
Maelstrom | 'Maelstrom' (screen print) is a visceral abstract image of the carnage of war, which is sadly all too prevalent in this era. Yet, the white light at the centre suggests that hope may eventually be found at 'the end of the tunnel'. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/ff-4361857422d5d4439ad5d73f1de29866-ff-Alan-MacKenzie-Maelstrom.jpg | Hello Darkness my Old Friend | This image, a screenprint, tries to capture the ambiguity felt when two old friends or former lovers, find each other after a period of separation. The initial euphoria is tinged with a darker undercurrent. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/ff-b6b4dc903cc703ba0bf2fbb2365cf1a1-ff-Alan-MacKenzie-Hello-Darkness-my-Old-Friend.jpg | Separated at Birth | 'Separated at Birth' is a screen print/monoprint suggesting that siblings or twins separated at birth who subsequently find each other will 'slot together' as matching halves. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/ff-93e628310e7a49d39535fccc9987d8c2-ff-Alan-MacKenzie-Separated-at-Birth.jpg |

Abandoned | This print is a mezzotint measuring only 5x6 cm. I wanted the abandoned or lost object to feel precious by whoever found it. Mezzotint is an old and delicate technique, which I felt matched my intention of it being something special to find. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/ff-7c274caa8e834365917e14539d510d1c-ff-Abandoned.jpg | ||||||
Broken Water | Looking over the small wooden bridge onto the island I notice the reflections on the water. The interplay with the floating leaves as well as the movement of the sparkling sun are captivating. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/ff-2427ad16dc2efd08b5f7eb8033a59d26-ff-IMG_3425.jpeg | Twilight Song | The lake is enchanting at dusk, birds are singing and the it’s a real treat. The ‘inbetweeness’ has always interested me, when reality can become abstract and sharp lines become blurred. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/ff-966f71ee9901af9c4361a02723ec07ff-ff-IMG_3426.jpeg | Chalk Stream Secrets | I am fascinated by the chalk stream which feeds the lake. I’m no scientist but it feels very special with the extra minerals and properties helping to nourish the lake. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/ff-1fc9c78af7bce3c099027508f620a34e-ff-IMG_3423-2.jpeg | Monoprinting using my own stencils and largely my own collage papers is my preferred method. I like the spontaneity and individuality of this method. Every print is unique.

The Man in the Stripey T Shirt | This is a small edition reduction lino and carborundum print. I wanted to create a feeling of tension in the print with the man looking bemused and slightly anxious. What was he looking at , we don’t know but I wished the image to portray the uncertainty and chaos of the world we find ourselves in right now. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/ff-b3539bb2ab058c25da194fe9c1f60521-ff-The-Man-with-the-Stripey-T-shirt.-Reduction-method-lino-.-30-x-30-cms-2025.jpeg | The Hungry Man | This black and white lino was inspired by a man I saw ferociously eating a rundown café in Kings Cross, London. I wanted the image to be stark, so I used just black and white to print it, and used different lino cutting techniques to enhance and contain the image. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/ff-28f879e6af664b9ce7d8498dd971edef-ff-The-Hungry-Man.-Lino-29-x-35-cms.jpg | The Green Men and Still Life | This image is inspired by “The Still Life with Lamp,” Picasso. I used different media for the image, Lino, stencils, carborundum, reverse Perspex print printing on acetate film and gold sparkles. The vase was inspired by Greek Amphora and is a lino print, the Green Men are printed Ion paper by the reverse Perspex method, and I used the symbology to create rebirth and growth as I did with the pomegranates to symbolise fertility. The tulips were printed on acetate so I could create more layering effects on the print. This is a monoprint, but I printed 3 in slightly different colour ways with different effects. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/ff-ecb128dbdcae667ae12311b2913717b5-ff-The-Green-Men-and-Still-Life-Monoprint-with-Lino-stencils-carborundum-reverse-perspex-print-and-print-on-acrylic-sheets.-35-x-45-cms.-copy.jpeg | Barry entered as Hilary has technical issues

Tidal Flow Finds | In this piece, I used seaweed collected from the beach at Cromer. I inked up a metal plate and arranged the items trying to replicate how I’d found them. | 1639 | 25 Tombland | 12x12cm, Soft Ground Etching, 2025 This small etching takes a different angle on the well known gate that leads towards Norwich Cathedral. Here I found inspiration in the dappled light of a small birch tree, the multiple little windows and different textured surfaces. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/ff-4ffa498181e59134c51688d9086a9c47-ff-PXL_20250812_140931431.jpg | ||||||

Metamorphosis Reduction lino cut 40 x 30 cm (w x h) £150 | A man goes for cosmetic surgery to enhance himself in the eyes of the world: adds bits to his anatomy, tattoos, false parts, extra limbs. | 1668 | Nostalgia 1. Anglia Square, Norwich | This is the HMSO building, being prepared for demolition in Anglia Square, Norwich. This place had a big influence on me growing up. | 1677 | Mussel Shell | A mixed media lino relief print of a mussel shell found on the Moray coast, layered with alcohol ink on synthetic paper. While the printed form remains constant throughout the edition, the movement of the ink creates variations within each piece. The work explores repetition, colour and the individuality of natural forms. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/ff-e63857cf1276c1e3896c3880a81fe2ab-ff-Mussel-Shell.jpeg | As I’m based in Scotland, family members local to Cromer should be able to assist with delivery if selected. Following discussion with Ruth, any unsold work may need to be posted back after the exhibition, with postage covered by myself. | |||||

Thirty ZZZs to fall asleep with. | 'Thirty ZZZs to fall asleep with' is a limited screen print of 30 distinctive Z letterforms I found and selected. A legend lists each typeface's name, designer and year. There'll be various colour variants — including a glow-in-the-dark edition (the ideal bedroom poster). | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/ff-d671ca692c905381fe1227b4bcd2c3e3-ff-B-Print-Cromer-26-FOUND-Photolumniscent-Variants.jpg | Tumbleyhill | An image which has stayed with me. One of the first things I found when I came to live in the rural, as Dutchman cycling over the 'hills' of rural West-Norfolk. A stark contrast to the urban, in which I'd lived for 25 years prior. Soon after, it became the most normal thing in the day. Limited edition screen print. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/ff-6eae6a7a5ff7c95a71c9b0c5a7d821f7-ff-C-Print-Cromer-26-FOUND-Oh-Deer.jpg | 'See it before it dissapears' | 'See it before it disappears' is screen printed in black onto a photoluminescent safety signage sheet (DIN 67510). The lettering charges in daylight, glows in the dark, then slowly fades. It’s set in uniform typeface ‘DIN 1451’ — designed for transport and traffic. This type of sentence is frequently used as an engagement trick by various social media providers. | 1680 | Wash and Scrub at the Seafront | On an afternoon trip to Cromer in the grey and mizzle with my camera I happened on a broom sticking up upon a fishing boat, the copper domes of the Hotel de Paris beaming through the grey of the background. | 1681 | Chance. collagraph print with oil and cold wax 1/1 (18 x 29 cm) NFS | One of a small series of exploratory works created whilst on an Artspace residency, finding my way with the process, materials and subject- the form and content. An uplifting experience, this inspired new discoveries and possibilities in print and other media and in finding myself as an artist. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/ff-89acd78ddbb663fcbf6d2ed9f3c338e3-ff-PXL_20260515_114242511.jpg | Discovery. collagraph print with oil and cold wax 1/1 (18 x 23 cm) NFS | Inspired by shape, lines, curves and edges; how they meet, align and interconnect, I found myself strongly attracted to the architectural and coastal structures along Cromer Prom, igniting an excitement to explore this very particular landscape, to interpret the surroundings in my own way. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/ff-a2dad644766813140b37a6192f8fde99-ff-PXL_20260515_114738839.jpg | Explore. collagraph print. 1/1 (35 x 21 cm) NFS | Working spontaneously with line work and extraction on the print plates to find and reveal positive and negative shapes with irregular borders, offers me great possibilities for exploration of structures and space, that resonate well with my personal creative themes of balancing freedom with containment. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/ff-252e58580cd2de5062c1d4b023a3debe-ff-PXL_20260515_115141624.jpg | The prints will be framed in simple frames, which will increase the overall size slightly. My artist name is Karen Lloyd and bank account name is Karen Walklin. I don't have a website or social media presence.
Exhausted | Exhausted is a reflection on the emotional and physical realities of motherhood. The work explores those quiet moments when identity shifts with time, age, and responsibility. It speaks about how personal needs evolve; from ambition and productivity to the simple human need for rest, stillness, and recovery. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/ff-9f0649837e7e6727cd0a345bf6049a6b-ff-5ea46841-b96d-445e-a1d3-d271a40cbcfe.jpeg | Crisis | Crisis reflects moments of mental overload, when thoughts become chaotic and clarity disappears. The work captures the instant before surrendering to rest; a necessary pause that allows the mind to reset. After disconnecting, everything feels lighter, calmer, and easier to face again. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/ff-16d8a569628ccd4e5db9f746c543b088-ff-4eeed577-eb57-4dbc-8794-0ec53896b4b1.jpeg | Palestine | Palestine reflects the emotional weight of empathy and the pain of witnessing injustice. The work explores how empathy can be both a strength and a burden, creating feelings of overwhelm and helplessness while questioning how suffering and injustice can continue to exist in the world. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/ff-35a6babaae8a9507414fc52a7a9c7561-ff-1ecdc2f0-2f71-4ae6-aa92-fa6e55947e4b.jpeg |
| 1683 | Animal Magnetism | Drypoint, lino-cut, and hand-colouring on recycled handmade paper. The print appears as a battered relic on uneven, highly textured paper. It is presented in a deep wooden printed box frame. | https://cromer-artspace.uk/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/ff-4d8ec93025b5cf16f425144c17828c8a-ff-Anderson-Jim-Animal-Magnetism-drypoint-lino-cut-and-hand-colouring-on-handmade-recycled-paper-in-printed-box-frame.jpg | Face Book | Lino-cut, carved on an piece of an old pub floor. The artwork is a satirical rendition of a phrase familiar to all of us, in a style reminiscent of a demented children's illustration.
